“Evidenced by its own GPPA and MPPA designation programs, the NAA fully
recognizes that appraisal is a key element to the auction method of
marketing,” said NAA President Tom Saturley, CAI. “Therefore, the value
of good appraisal skills cannot be overstated, and we applaud the
efforts of these groups to raise the profile of the qualified appraiser
to the general public.”
NAA not only supports such initiatives, it also continues to lead
appraisal educational efforts through its Graduate Personal Property
Appraiser (GPPA) and Master Personal Property Appraiser (MPPA)
designation programs. The GPPA program teaches students the
responsibilities of being an appraiser and provides advanced training in
the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP)
guidelines, while MPPA offers additional advanced appraisal training.
The Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act of 1989
recognizes USPAP as the generally accepted appraisal standards and
requires USPAP compliance for appraisers in federally related
transactions.
