Graduate Personal Property Appraiser
GPPA is different from NAA’s other designations in two ways: It’s longer (five days), and it’s not about auctions. GPPA is designed to give auctioneers both more skill and acumen in appraising personal property and also another potential revenue stream as a professional appraiser. Attendees learn to appraise all types of personal property, from art to antiques, heavy equipment to general household goods, vehicles to collectibles. The class focuses on process rather than asset class: attendees complete a minimum of three appraisals in class. GPPA teaches attendees to appraise according to USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice), which is a two-day class also offered by NAA.
Requirements for GPPA
  • Be a member of NAA
  • Register and attend all 40 hours of the class
  • Become USPAP compliant by taking the two day (15 hour) USPAP class and passing the exam
  • Complete and submit a Designation Application
  • Within 90 days of completing the class, submit a USPAP compliant appraisal for instructor evaluation (evaluation sheet link below)

Fees
The GPPA renewal fee is $50 per year or $25 if you also have CAI.
GPPA Instructors
Tim Luke, CAI, BAS, MPPA 
Tim has 28 years of experience in the auction and appraisal industry, beginning his career at Christie’s in New York where he became a Director and Auctioneer.  After leaving Christie’s, Tim established and is president of his own auction/appraisal/events business, TreasureQuestGroup, Inc., for twenty years located in South Florida providing appraisals for divorce, insurance, donations, and estates, along with providing auction and brokerage services of Fine & Decorative arts.  Tim works with non-profits and serves as benefit auctioneer for many high profile charities across the United States.  He has appeared as a participating appraiser on the first nine seasons of Antiques Roadshow, on HGTV’s Cash its the Attic and Strange Inheritance. 
Megan Mahn Miller, MPPA is the Owner and President of Mahn Miller Collective, Inc., an appraisal and consulting firm specializing in Rock and Roll and Hollywood memorabilia.  She is also a Senior Property Specialist with Julien’s Auctions,based in Los Angeles. Mahn Miller holds a Master Personal Property Appraiser (MPPA) designation from the National Auctioneer’s Association and a bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of Minnesota.
Darron Meares, CAI, BAS, MPPA

Darron Meares is a licensed auctioneer in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Indiana and Florida. He also holds a South Carolina Real Estate Broker’s License. Darron manages and conducts real estate auctions as well as business and bankruptcy liquidations. He currently serves as a member of the Education Institute of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) and previously served a three-year term on the NAA Board of Directors. In addition, he is a past president of the South Carolina Auctioneers Association and is the 2013-14 South Carolina Bid Calling Grand Champion.  He was inducted into the South Carolina Auctioneer Association Hall of Fame in 2018.

Meares is a sought-after public speaker and a professional member of the National Speakers Association. In addition, he is an instructor at the Southeastern School of Auctioneering and the Certified Auctioneers Institute (CAI) at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

Rich Schur, CAI, BAS, MPPA
Rich is an auctioneer and appraiser with Schur Success Auction and Appraisal, Inc. and works with his wife, Shannon Schur, CAI, BAS, GPPA. He graduated Worldwide College of Auctioneering in 2005 and was named the Rookie Champion for Colorado in 2006 and Colorado State Champion in 2010. As well as holding CAI, BAS and GPPA, Rich is a Certified Equipment and Machinery Appraiser from the NEBB Institute. He has served as President of the Colorado Auctioneers Association and is currently serving his last year on a term for the NAA Board of Directors.
