MPPA – Master Personal Property Appraiser
A professional designation awarded by the National Auctioneers Association to help professional auctioneers learn the responsibilities of appraising assets. Designees are taught to conduct a complete and appropriate appraisal, as well as taught to know the various factors that affect the value of appraised items. MPPA designees specialize in one or more of the following areas: antiques and estates, plant machinery and equipment, construction and agricultural equipment, or small business valuation. In order to be granted the MPPA designation, the auctioneer must already be credentialed with the GPPA.
The National Auctioneers Association created the Master Personal Property Appraiser (MPPA) professional designation to provide GPPA auctioneers with advanced training in appraisals. The MPPA designation is designed to recognize three elements: a commitment to continuing education in the appraisal field, longevity and experience in the discipline of property appraisal, and a depth of experience in personal property appraisal.
To complete the designation:
- Hold the GPPA designation for a minimum of 3 (three) years
- Provide evidence of continuing education in personal property appraisal, equivalent to at least 14 CEs in the last three years
- Be USPAP compliant
- Provide at least three asset-specific appraisals for review by the GPPA/MPPA committee, i.e. three heavy equipment appraisals
MPPA candidates must submit additional coursework in appraisals or proof of previous appraisal experience. Applicants must complete a four-page application that is reviewed by a peer review committee. USPAP training must be completed and supporting materials of upper-level appraisal work must be submitted.
To maintain the designation:
- Pay yearly designation fee
- Provide proof for USPAP compliance every two years
- Obtain 24 hours of CE every three years at least 15 CEs of those hours must be in advanced appraisal education
- Obtain 24-hours of continuing education every three years
- Audit GPPA once every six years
