Full-time auctioneer since 1971, began career in hometown of Princeton WV, and in 1981 joined international auction firm Jim Davis Auctioneers of Dallas, Texas which specialized in oil field and construction equipment auctions internationally, with this firm conducted multi-million dollar auctions in Saudi Arabia. Later worked with other national heavy equipment auction firms and eventually formed Jim Owen Auctioneers headquartered in Myrtle Beach and specialized in selling work vessels across the US including, Tug Boats, work barges, dredging equipment, sailing vessels, ships and more.

Jim's foray into the auction business was selling real estate so he returned to that exclusively and has been at the forefront of selling many major real estate parcels nationwide, including on the team to sell an entire town in New Mexico. With a focus on corporate real estate was at the gavel for the sale of many multi-property liquidations nationwide including for one of the world's largest retailers. Since moving to Florida Jim served as auctioneer for many real estate auctions including a major orange grove auction exceeding $44 million in sales.

Jim originally joined NAA in 1971 upon completion of the auctioneering course at Mendenhall School of Auctioneering, High Point NC, where he was later honored to serve as an instructor. Jim remained a member for many years but with a membership gap he later rejoined in 2021.

Jim is also an author with his book about his near death experience during a major heart attack titled, 'In Search of A River' available on Amazon and his upcoming book 'Disown Your Stuff', advice from an Auctioneer about downsizing and getting the best dollar return for your assets.
